It was initially developed as a potential therapeutic agent for metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. FXR is a nuclear hormone receptor that is found in the liver, intestine, and other tissues and is involved in the regulation of bile acid, glucose, and lipid metabolism.
